WORLD HERITAGE SUNSET CEREMONY OPENS AT FORT HENRY JULY 3 2019


KINGSTON, Ontario – It is the year of Canada’s confederation and the Fort Henry Guard are preparing for battle when suddenly the enemy approaches!  Action ensues, the cannons are loaded and the volley begins.  The ferociously brave Fort Henry Guard are victorious and ensured the country-to-be will not fall.

In the course of an hour and a half show, audiences can expect to see an amazing show with the Fort Henry Guard Drums, Drill Squad and Artillery Detachments presenting a period interpretation of 1860s military music and drill along with rousing big-bang artillery manoeuvres including a simulated battle.  It is a show like no other and is fun entertainment suitable for the whole family.

Sunset Ceremonies are performed at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings during July (3, 10, 17, 24 & 31) and August (7, 14, 21 & 28).  Enjoy table d’hôte dinner service at the Battery Bistro for $36.95 adult, $12.95 child (under 10 years) plus tax and gratuity.  (Reservations recommended)

For lighter dining, The Bonnycastle Bakery in the Lower Fort will be open from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm for cold beverages, including beer and wine, grilled cheese sandwiches made with fresh-baked Fort Henry homemade bread, and grab ‘n go selections.   On the sweet side, BeaverTails will be open before and after the performance in the Advanced Battery restaurant location until 9:30 pm.  

To celebrate the grand opening of the new Commissariat Store in the Lower Fort. Fort Henry will be giving away an authentic blank rifle shell fired by the Fort Henry Guard with every purchase in the new store on Wednesday, July 3.  Mrs. Henry’s Treat Shop and Commissariat Store will be open during daytime programming as well as the Sunset Ceremony. Be sure to stop by the Treat Shop on your way in to pick up a baked treat.

2019 Sunset Ceremony Additions:

Fort Henry is pleased to make it easier for guests with mobility considerations to get to the seating area from the parking lot. A golf cart will be available to transfer guests, up to four at a time, from the parking lot at 6:30 p.m., 6:50 pm and 7:10 pm with the return trip starting at 9:15 pm from the parade square. To facilitate transportation into the Fort, it is recommended that visitors purchase their tickets in advance and present to the shuttle driver.

ASL Interpretation
Fort Henry will also offer ASL sign language interpretation to at the Sunset Ceremonies.  Staff will be pleased to direct guests interested in this service to the assigned reserved bleacher seating area.

Ticket prices: adult $20; student $16 and youth $13  Balcony seating $40. Upgrade your day program ticket to include Sunset Ceremonies for just $10!  All prices are plus tax.  Children 4 years and younger are free. Arrive early to shop the unique items in the Fort Henry Trade Square.
