BATTLE OF CRYSLER'S FARM WAR OF 1812 RE-ENACTMENT WEEKEND JULY 9, 10
Morrisburg – The Friends of the Crysler’s Farm Battlefield will commemorate the historic War of 1812 - Battle of Crysler's Farm, largely considered to be the Battle that Saved Canada, with a large living history event and military re-enactment near Upper Canada Village on July 9 and 10, 2016. Admission is just $5 per person (6 years +) to the Re-enactment event and includes military camps, re-enactment battles and many other displays. Proceeds go to the Friends of Crysler’s Farm and the development of future military history events.
Activities will take place in Crysler Park, just west of the Battle Memorial Building and Monument. The site opens at 9:30 a.m. each day featuring British and American military encampment, period demonstrations and displays including cavalry and 19th century surgery and medicine, Merchants and Artisans, alongside ongoing demonstrations and drills throughout the day. At the Battle Memorial Building, visitors can see early 19th century weaponry, an interactive model of the Battle of Crysler’s Farm and a grand panoramic mural depicting the battle along with two dioramas featuring life-size soldiers.
The Military Re-enactment activities get underway at 1:15 p.m. with a performance of 1812 Fife and Drum is followed by the live action battle at 2:00 p.m. will take place on the grounds to the west of the Battlefield Memorial building. Guests should plan to arrive by 1 p.m. to allow sufficient time to park and walk to the battlefield. Visitors can also visit the dioramas and displays and see the large Adam Sherriff Scott mural inside the Battlefield Memorial Building, included with admission.
Sunday’s schedule includes the encampment, demonstrations and displays throughout the day and a special cavalry demonstration to the north of the Battle Memorial Building at 11:00 a.m. The Military Re-enactment activities and afternoon battle gets underway at 1:30 p.m.
Admission to the Military Re-enactment event is just $5 per person (6 yrs +) for each battle event. Military Re-enactment visitors will get $5 off admission to Upper Canada Village by showing their Battle Admission wrist band. Upper Canada Village admission for this weekend event is Adult (13 – 64 yrs) $19, Senior (65 yrs+) $18, Youth (6-12 yrs) $12 and children 5 years and under are free.
