CELEBRATE 350 YEARS OF THE CANADIAN HORSE AT UPPER CANADA VILLAGE'S HORSE LOVERS' WEEKEND SEPTMEBER 5-7, 2015

Morrisburg, Ontario – Horse lovers will have reason to celebrate at Upper Canada Village over Labour Day weekend (September 5-7, 2015) at the Horse Lovers’ weekend event.  The 2015 event will pay tribute to 350 years of Canada’s National Breed, the Canadian Horse.  Saturday, September 5 will be the ‘All-Canadian Day’. Highlights will include an all-Canadian horse parade, anniversary cake and refreshments plus entertainment throughout the day.

This special Labour Day weekend event features three days packed with activities showcasing riding, driving and working horses.  Natural horsemanship demonstrations and a mock 1860s horse auction are all part of the weekend’s activities.  It is a great opportunity to watch, learn and improve your understanding of all things equine, with demonstrations and performances by notable horse experts.

  • Farrah Green, a Parelli Horse Specialist who states her mission as “helping horses with their people, as well as furthering my own horsemanship skills,” has an extensive background as both a rider and teacher. Green, a 3 Star Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instructor will share her knowledge about how to communicate more effectively with horses and will give multiple performances and demonstrations throughout the weekend.

  • Joining Green will be Gary Meek and the team from Drogheda Manor in Lunenburg, Ontario.  This team will demonstrate the principles of natural horsemanship in an educational and entertaining presentation that is fun for the whole family.  You will never look at horses in the same way again!  Free horseback rides will also be offered.

“This year’s Horse Lovers’ weekend is a really special celebration as we are marking the 350th anniversary.  The Canadian Horse has played such an important role in the settlement of Canada.  Upper Canada Village is a great place to see the horses performing a wide variety of tasks every day.  They play an important role in helping us to bring life in the 1860s to life.  We appreciate the support of the horse community in helping us to deliver this great event.”  -- Bruce Henbest, Upper Canada Village
