Canadian Boating Federation/American Powerboat Association
Outboard Hydroplanes are lightweight boats, which are designed to ride on a cushion of air held in a tunnel between two traps or sponsons on the underside of the boat. The driver shifts his weight to control the amount of lift to suit water and wind conditions while riding on his knees in an attempt to keep only the last few inches of the boat in the water. Hydroplane racing has been compared to driving a formula one car on ice at full speed with no brakes. For additional information about hydroracing please log on to www.hydroracer.net. At least 120 entries are expected to participate in the weekend event. The boats will range from a 15 HP Junior class, capable of racing at 35mph, to a 70 HP Formula "E" class, capable of racing at 100mph. With three championship events being held, many of North America's current and former champions will be on hand to defend their titles. All watercraft are asked to please stay clear of the area during the races from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for safety reasons. Security boats will be patrolling the area enforcing the restricted area. Swimming will not be permitted at Mille Roches. The races will start at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast will be served both days from 7 to 11 a.m., with a food concession on site for the remainder of the day. Bring a lawnchair and your binoculars to catch all of the action. The daily charge will be $3.25 for adults, $2.75 for seniors and children 12 and under free.
