THERE ARE HEROES AMONG US!

Zig Ziglar, a world renowned sales motivator once said:  “Research indicates that workers have three prime needs:  interesting work, recognition for doing a good job, and being let in on things that are going on in the company.  Recognition for doing a good job is exactly what General Manager and CEO Darren Dalgleish had in mind when he and his team developed “The Hero’s Cup” – a quarterly award that will recognize exemplary efforts in the areas of Health and Safety, Sales, Customer Service, Team Support and Waste Reduction.

“A pat on the back is only a few vertebrae removed from a kick in the pants, but is miles ahead in results.” said Darren Dalgleish.  “We’re typically programmed to identify what’s wrong with what we do, rather than what’s right.  We’re looking at this as a public opportunity to showcase our internal heroes, share the reasons why they’ve been identified and subsequently motivate our entire team to reach for those positive performance bars.  As Eastern Ontario’s largest tourism organization, we often boast of our grand heritage assets, vast parkland vistas, interactive events and unique guest experiences, we neglect to shout about our most valuable assets of all – our people.  We believe this initiative will help strengthen our respective teams and offer an even higher level of customer service to our over one million guests annually.”

“The first recipient of this new award may have literally saved another employee’s life this past August.  “Wayne Trickey, our Parks Supervisor at Ivy Lea Campground and Brown’s Bay Beach Day-Use Picnic Area, came to the aid of another employee who experienced a near-fatal situation.  He resuscitated him on site, called 911 and escorted him to the hospital.  The happy ending is that our employee is well and Wayne demonstrated a text book example of handling a very critical situation with clear thought and affirmative action.” remarked Dalgleish.

Hero’s Cup Honourable Mentions also acknowledged Kirsten Gardner from the Long Sault Parkway and David Fletcher in Parks Security for outstanding efforts in Health and Safety delivery with guests.
