Upper Canada Village lights up for Alight at Night!

Morrisburg, Ontario – One of Ontario’s favourite winter lights festivals Alight at Night at Upper Canada Village is getting ready to kick off the holiday season on Friday, December 2, 2016. Alight at Night has been named one of Ontario’s Top 100 Events by Festivals & Events Ontario and as one of Canada’s 12 Breathtaking Sights to see in a Canadian Winter
Alight at Night will be open Thursdays through Sundays until December 23, closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and is open nightly from December 26 to January 7, 2017. Hours are 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (open 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays).
Returning this year will be the popular 50 foot tall Alight at Night Ferris wheel where visitors get a spectacular view of Upper Canada Village decked out in over one million lights. The giant 400 foot long Mistletoe Maze constructed from over 300 giant bales of Reindeer Hay will be in the fairground area near the Ferris wheel. Saint Nick’s Merry Mansion at Crysler Hall will greet visitors with a Sound & Light Show featuring lights dancing to some of your favourite holiday songs.  Inside a Victorian Saint Nick, adorned in a luxurious red suit with rich brocade, will be available for visits with Santa from December 2 until December 23; a great photo opportunity for the whole family! Just outside the Village entrance, take a ride on the Miniature Toy Train, all included in the price of admission.
The ever popular Fun & Lunch with Santa event will be held at the Harvest Barn restaurant starting at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3. Join Santa for a hot sandwich combo (drink and fries plus hot turkey sandwich for adults/hot dog for children), decorate gingerbread men and share your Christmas wishes.  The Village Store will be open for shopping following lunch.  Fun & Lunch with Santa includes evening admission to Alight at Night. Reservations are required.  Adult (13-64 yrs) $37.50, Senior (64 yrs+) $34.50, Youth (6-12 yrs) $27.50 and Children (5 yrs & under) $7.00.  Prices are plus HST.

Accessibility Night on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 is an evening where groups of people can ride in the comfort of their own vehicle to view the Village adorned in lights.  Only accessibility vans or parabuses are allowed.  Coaches and school buses cannot be accommodated due to their size. For safety, Upper Canada Village will provide a trained and licensed staff person familiar with the Village roadways in the dark, to lead these vehicles through the site.  Reservations are required, admission is $14 per person (plus HST.)
Romantic Pommier Carriage rides are an ideal way to have a private tour of the lights and make for a extra memorable visit.  The Pommier Carriage ride is $92.10 (HST & admin. fee included) which includes admission for two, a half hour romantic tour of the lights, and a gourmet departing gift for two (includes Village bread & cheese, sparkling apple cider and a coupon for 20% off purchases at Pommier Jewellers in Cornwall). Pommier Carriage rides book up quickly, advance reservations are required.
Streamlined pricing provides affordable family fun with one price for all activities including entry to the festival, horse-drawn wagon rides, the Miniature Toy Train, Ferris Wheel, Mistletoe Maze and a visit with Santa.  Adults (13 yrs +) $14; Senior’s (65 yrs +) $12 and Youth (6-12 yrs) $10; Children 5 yrs and under FREE.  Pricing is plus HST.  Advance ticket purchase, particularly during the holidays, is strongly recommended to speed entry into the festival.  Full festival details and tickets are available on the web at www.alightatnight.ca
At Christ Church you can get in the holiday spirit with some carol singing.  Performers and musical accompaniment will be on site each night featuring guest choirs and solo performers to encourage all to sing along.
And of course, no visit would be complete without holiday treats and festive dining.  Follow the tantalizing smell of fresh bread and cinnamon rolls baking in the wood-fired oven at the Bakery.   You can find the fresh baked cinnamon buns and bread for purchase at the Village Store.
