Relive the Battle that Saved Canada at the Battle of Crysler’s Farm monument at Upper Canada Village

Morrisburg –   The Friends of the Crysler’s Farm Battlefield will mark the 202nd anniversary of the historic War of 1812 - Battle of Crysler's Farm with a large living history event and military re-enactment near Upper Canada Village on July 11 and 12, 2015.  Considered by many to be the battle that saved Canada, more than 150 re-enactors are expected to participate in the event this year.

The site opens at 9:30 a.m. each day and will feature period Merchants and Artisans, an 1812 Doctor and wartime surgery station alongside ongoing demonstrations and drills throughout the day.  The period British and American military camps located to the south of the Miniature Train Station will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.  The main event, the Military Re-enactment, will take place on the grounds to the west of the Battlefield Memorial Building.  The live action battle will be kicked off with an official welcome and Children’s Muster Parade and Cannon Run at 1:30 p.m.  Guests should plan to arrive by 1 p.m. to allow sufficient time to park and walk to the battlefield.  Visitors can also visit the dioramas and displays and see the large Adam Sherriff Scott mural inside the Battlefield Memorial Building, included with admission.

Sunday’s schedule will include a special Memorial Service and Salute to the late Robin Morris.  Robin was the longtime President of the Friends of Crysler’s Farm and played an instrumental role in re-opening the Battlefield Memorial Building and in the development of the annual Re-enactment weekend event.  Robin also played a large role in planning the Bicentennial event for the War of 1812 two years ago.    There will be a brief gathering on the waterfront along with a eulogy and cannon salute.

Admission to the Military Re-enactment event is $5 per person (6 yrs +) for each battle event.  Military Re-enactment visitors will get $5 off admission to Upper Canada Village by showing their Battle Admission wrist band.  Upper Canada Village admission for this weekend event is Adult (13 – 64 yrs) $18, Youth (6-12 yrs) & Senior (65 yrs+) $14 and children 5 years and under are free.
