Morrisburg, Ontario – The vibrant colours and crisp days of fall are just around the corner.  At Upper Canada Village the harvest bounty will be on full display on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20 at the newly expanded Fall Fair, Quilt Show and Upper Canadian Beard Championship.  

Anyone can participate in the excitement of the Village’s authentically re-created 1860s Fall Fair, using 1860s fair categories and rules as a guideline. Public entries are welcome and you can enter your fine art, preserves, handwork, vegetables and other items.  All entries must comply with the1860s Fall Fair Guidelines. Music and magic shows throughout the day will provide additional entertainment in the fairgrounds.  See livestock, agricultural and dairy products, vegetables, flowers, and fine arts.  Join in the old fashioned fun and games which promise to entertain the whole family.
And don't miss out on the Upper Canada Village Fair treats! Fresh apples, Village-baked bread, Village made cheese, cider, lemonade and delicious, creamy fudge will all be available for just 50 cents per serving.
Quilters from five quilting guilds across Eastern Ontario will gather to exhibit an amazing array of contemporary works.  The quilts will be on view at the Family Activity Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.  Upper Canada Village will display antique quilts and historical reproductions the Village's own collection.  
The Fall Fair event has been expanded with the addition of the new Upper Canadian Beard Championship!  Contestants can enter one or more of seven different categories to show off their facial hair.  The Upper Canadian Beard Championship is meant to be a competition based on fun and creativity, infused with a historical spirit.  Upper Canada Village’s time period, the mid-19th century, was a grand moment for male facial hair. 
The seven categories include:  Full Beard (no styling aids or props), Mustache (no styling aids, no props), Other Facial Hair (no styling aids or props), Fake Facial Hair, Full Beard (styling aids and props permitted), Mustache (styling aids and props permitted), Other Facial Hair (styling aids and props permitted).  Judges will determine which contestant’s facial hair best enhances overall appearance, style and personality.  In the Fake Facial Hair category, judges will consider originality and creativity as well as hair. 
The Upper Canadian Beard competition will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 1:15 p.m. at Cook’s Tavern.  The competition entry fee is $20 (plus HST) to enter one category or several categories.  Competitors should pre-register with Gabriele Thomas at 613-543-3704 extension 2234 or by email Gabriele.thomas@parks.on.ca and must arrive at Cook’s Tavern no later than 1:00 p.m.
