The St. Lawrence Parks Commission is undertaking a major restoration of Mille Roches Campground and the Mille Roches Beach & Day‑Use Area on the Long Sault Parkway. These improvements are part of a broader project designed to modernize essential infrastructure, enhance guest amenities, and support the long‑term environmental sustainability of SLPC parks.
The Mille Roches Campground & Day‑Use Area Restoration Project will replace aging systems, many now more than 60 years old, with modern, municipal‑connected infrastructure while introducing new, accessible guest facilities. When completed, both Mille Roches sites will reopen with improved comfort, accessibility, environmental resilience, and operational reliability.
This project aims to:
Better amenities; improved reliability and comfort; smoother operations when the site reopens
Gender-neutral washrooms, changerooms, and a newly designed canteen
Safe, durable municipal water and wastewater connections that support watershed health and reduce longterm risk
New infrastructure replaces decades-old systems that have exceeded their intended lifespan.
Strengthened water and wastewater infrastructure will help accommodate future visitor demand and enable long‑term tourism initiatives across SLPC sites and the surrounding region. These upgrades ensure SLPC’s parks remain resilient, sustainable, and ready to support expanded programming and increased guest visitation in the years ahead.
Mille Roches Campground and Mille Roches Beach & Day‑Use Area will be unavailable for the entire 2026 operating season to allow construction to proceed safely and efficiently. Safety fencing, signage, and controlled work zones will be in place throughout construction. During this time, McLaren Campground, Woodlands Campground, and Woodlands Beach & Day Use Area on the Long Sault Parkway are ready to welcome guests, along with nearby Crysler Park Beach & Day Use Area and other SLPC properties.
Construction work will begin at Mille Roches Campground and Day Use Area in spring 2026 and continue through the 2026 operating season. Both sites are expected to be operational in 2027 with the new amenities.
SLPC will work closely with construction crews throughout the project to minimise disruption. This includes planning work primarily during weekday daytime hours, limiting traffic delays wherever possible, and ensuring clear signage and safety fencing are in place. Any construction activity that may fall outside normal expectations, or that may temporarily affect access, will be communicated through timely website alerts and on‑site notices. The safety and enjoyment of all guests to SLPC sites remains our top priority.
Long Sault Parkway is expected to remain open throughout construction and will remain accessible for driving, walking, and cycling.
