Mille Roches Campground & Day‑Use Area Restoration: Project Update 2

Mille Roches Campground & Day‑Use Area Revitalization

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission continues to advance work on the restoration of Mille Roches Campground and the Mille Roches Beach & Day‑Use Area along the Long Sault Parkway. This project will modernize critical infrastructure, replace aging systems, and introduce new, accessible amenities that will enhance the guest experience when the site reopens in 2027.

This project aims to:

  • Enhance guest comfort, safety, and accessibility
  • Modernize water and wastewater systems through municipal connections
  • Replace end‑of‑life infrastructure with accessible washrooms, changerooms, a new beach canteen with rinse showers, and enhanced picnic and beach area
  • Improve long‑term environmental sustainability and reduce ecological risk

Construction Update

Construction activity is now underway. Work began at the Mille Roches Campground in April 2026, with activity extending to Mille Roches Beach & Day Use Area beginning in May 2026. Pre‑construction work on the Mille Roches Campground Snetsinger Island washroom will begin in early June 2026.

Safety Reminders

For your safety and the safety of construction crews:

  • • Please keep well back from active work areas
  • • Respect all barricades, fencing, signage, and posted detours
  • • Give heavy equipment operators a wide berth at all times
  • • Please keep dogs on leash especially near construction works.
  • • Be mindful of other vehicles stopping or slowing down in construction zones along the parkway

Hours of Work

SLPC is working closely with Infrastructure Ontario and project contractors to coordinate construction sequencing and minimize impacts where possible. All work is being carried out in accordance with approved environmental plans, permits, and mitigation strategies. Construction is planned primarily during weekday, daytime hours.

Long Sault Parkway Access

The Long Sault Parkway is expected to remain open throughout construction and will continue to be accessible for driving, walking, and cycling.

A temporary single‑lane traffic reduction will be in place at the end of May and into June 2026, on Mille Roches Island on the Long Sault Parkway, near Mille Roches Beach & Day Use Area (15890 Long Sault Parkway, Long Sault, Ontario K0C 1P0) to support underground construction work. This work includes excavation and the installation of new piping for municipal water and wastewater connections.

A traffic control plan is in place, including alternating traffic through the work zone, supported by signage, cones, and traffic lights to guide users safely. These measures follow provincial standards to help protect both the public and construction crews. Please follow all posted signs and directions, and take care to respect cones, barriers, and buffer zones between vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, and workers.

During this phase of the project, construction access is primarily from the east end of the Parkway, which helps reduce traffic disruptions near open parks and campgrounds.

2026 Availability Status

Mille Roches Campground and Mille Roches Beach & Day‑Use Area will be unavailable for the entire 2026 operating season to allow construction to proceed safely and efficiently. During this time, McLaren Campground, Woodlands Campground, and Woodlands Beach & Day Use Area on the Long Sault Parkway are ready to welcome guests, along with nearby Crysler Park Beach & Day Use Area and other SLPC properties.
