AUGUST 2023 UPDATE

The finishing touches are underway at Brown’s Bay Beach & Picnic Area!

Over the last month there has been a lot of outside work, and the building’s exterior is nearly complete. The steel surrounds around all door frames have been powder-coated, providing added protection against the elements, and exterior doors now close-in the building. Nearby to the playground and the building, the concrete has been poured as the deck and base for a shade sail, and the powder-coated posts have been erected.

Installation of the cedar soffit and fiberglass-reinforced concrete siding is complete, along with the outdoor showers for rinsing off. Next, louvred wood will be added to the outdoor benches, creating a wind screen for the outdoor shower areas.

Connecting the interior and exterior, a wave-pattern design has been sandblasted into the concrete through the building and surrounding outdoor patio area.

Landscaping has begun, with sod and maple trees planted around the building and patio and river rock added around the building for drainage. Handrails are now in place along the wheelchair accessible access ramps between the beach, barrier-free water access ramp and patio.

Indoors, all HVAC and electrical systems are fully complete. In the canteen, durable Corian counters have been installed and all appliances are now in place. Wood benches have been added to the changerooms, and the stalls are built in the washrooms and changerooms.

Plumbing work, including the installation of a fountain and a water bottle refilling station, has been finalized. The septic pumps have been replaced, and the water treatment system has been fully implemented.

To maximize the enjoyment of this newly revitalized park, St. Lawrence Parks Commission is extending the season this year at Brown’s Bay. After Labour Day, the park will be open weekends until October 9, 2023.

Regular updates will continue to be provided on the revitalization project.
